Ethnic and Designer Sarees

Besides traditional sarees, ethnic and designer sarees are also the women's choice. These sarees gives an stylish and different look to the Indian women.



These sarees are available in different fabrics and designs that gives an outstanding look to the 21st century women. These designer sarees make a woman look gorgeous, young and beautiful! Most designer sarees such as net sarees, chiffon sarees and georgette sarees are done up with bright colors and bold yet feminine patterns on them.

They come in various beautiful & unique designs to tantalize the Indian women's senses. Lets have a look over the Sarees of different fabrics :

Net Sarees

In net sarees soft net is used so that the embroidery work can be done easily and it does not irritate the wearer. These sarees are so transparent that the midriff will be clearly visible and the embroidery over sarees gives a lavish look. 


These sarees are beautiful and heavy enough that they can be weared only on some auspicious occasions like marriage, parties and all. The embroidery material used in these sarees are beads, laces, shells, stones , silk threads etc. Hanging stones are also used for making them more lavish which are tagged at other end of the saree. The blouses of these sarees are also designed so well. The back of the blouses are lavishly designed with the hangings and the cut work designs.


Chiffon Sarees

Chiffon is a French pronunciation of a cloth which is lightweight, balanced plain-woven sheer fabric woven of twisted crepe yarn. Chiffon is made from cotton, silk or synthetic fibers. 

This fabric is used for Sarees also. These Chiffon Sarees are engraved with various materials like golden zari border, sequins work, stone work. But as this is a very lighweight cloth so this fabric does not support the heavy beaded or shell embroidery. 



The above beautifully wrapped saree is of chiffon fabric. Due to its lighweight and fine fabric it wrapped beautifully and give thin look to the feminine.


Cotton Sarees 

Cotton is a soft, fluffy fiber boll that grows around seeds. The cotton grows on the tree which is the only source of cotton. Cotton is used for various purposes and one of them is Saree. These cotton Sarees are basically designed in hot places as cotton absorbs the heat and sweating.

These cotton sarees are beautifully designed with sober colors and designs. For making these cotton sarees beautiful and new forever you need to give them proper starch so that the colors and finishing of the sarees will be same forever.



Some  of these cotton sarees come up with open ends at the other end of the saree which is called pallu of the saree. 

Silk Sarees

Silk is also a natural fabric which is generated by an insect or worm named silk worm. But generally only the silk of moth caterpillars has been used for textile manufacturing. The silk is produced by the larvae of the insects then it processed and used for manufacturing cloths. Only some of the states manufactured and processed the silk like Surat in Gujarat, Banglore, Maysore and many more. The Silk Sarees of these cities are globally famous.



These Silk Sarees are manufactured using the bright colors and worked with highly shinning material like zari and silk threads. Silk Sarees gives very rich look to the Indian Women. The Silk Sarees are mostly famous in South India. These are weared at the special occasion like wedding or festivals with the Gold jewellery.

Traditional Sarees


A saree is a South Asian female garment that consists of drape varying from two to nine yards in length and two to four feet in breadth that is typically wrapped around the waist, with one end draped over the shoulder, baring the midriff.

The sari is usually worn over a petticoat called lehenga with a fitted upper garment commonly called a blouse or a choli or ravika. The blouse has short sleeves and is usually cropped at the midriff. The sari is associated with grace and is widely regarded as a symbol of Indian, Bangladeshi, Pakistani, Nepalese and Sri Lankan culture.




Styles of Draping Sarees/Sari

In India there are around 80 ways to wear Saree, these ways are diversified according to the states. Each state have their own way to wear Sarees. Lets take a look over it :

Nivi Style Saree - This style of saree is originally worn in Andhra Pradesh, besides the modern nivi, there is also the kaccha nivi, where the pleats are passed through the legs and tucked into the waist at the back. This allows free movement while covering the legs. Like below :

Gujarati/Rajasthani Sarees - In Gujarati/Rajasthani Sarees after tucking in the pleats similar to the nivi style, the loose end is taken from the back, draped across the right shoulder, and pulled across to be secured in the back. Like below :

Maharashtrian/Konkani/Kashta Sarees - This drape is very similar to that of the male Maharashtrian dhoti. The center of the sari (held lengthwise) is placed at the center back, the ends are brought forward and tied securely, then the two ends are wrapped around the legs. When worn as a sari, an extra-long cloth of nine yards is used and the ends are then passed up over the shoulders and the upper body. They are primarily worn by Brahmin women of Maharashtra, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Goa. Like below :

Madisar Sari - this drape is typical of Iyengar/Iyer Brahmin ladies from Tamil Nadu. Traditional Madisar is weared using 9 yards saree. See below :

Kodagu Style Saree - This saree drape is confined to ladies hailing from the Kodagu district of Karnataka. In this style, the pleats are created in the rear, instead of the front. The loose end of the sari is draped back-to-front over the right shoulder, and is pinned to the rest of the sari. See below :

Gobbe Saree - This style of saree is worn by women in the Malnad or Sahyadri and central region of Karnataka. It is worn with 18 molas saree with three four rounds at the waist and a knot after crisscrossing over shoulders.

Gond Style Saree - Gond sari styles found in many parts of Central India. The cloth is first draped over the left shoulder, then arranged to cover the body.

Malayali Style Saree - The two-piece sari, or Mundum Neryathum, worn in Kerala. Usually made of unbleached cotton and decorated with gold or coloured stripes and/or borders. Also the Set-saree, a sort of mundum neryathum. See below :

Ladies Suits

Ladies suits are the most preffered ethnic wear nowadays. These are available in various styles like ladies salwar suits, ladies churidar suits, ladies anarkali suits, ladies parallel suits. These are available in the most attractive color combinations and designs.




Ladies Salwar Suits




Ladies salwar suit is the most ancient ethnic wear that Indian women prefer. But nowadays these salwar suits are coming with various attractive designs, colors and styles. These salwar suits are now changed to short kurti with patiala salwar that is most commonly wear in Punjabi culture. The Patiala salwar gives an outstanding look to the salwar with many pleats. These are in the combination of light shade kurti and dark color salwar, plain white kurti and printed salwar that gives a marvelous look to the salwar.

Nowadays there is also a trend of embroidered salwar with the kurti. It may be beaded embroidery, net work, crochet work, silk embroidery and many more.

Ladies Churidar Suits



Ladies churidar suits are preferred as both ethnic as well as modern wear because these are coming in various styles and designs. The designs and fashion of ladies churidar suits changes daily. An era back these churidar suits were wore with short and tight kurti without side slits. But that fashion again comes back and girls are preferring them. These churidar suits are now designed with combination of plain kurti and printed churidar, embroidered kurti and plain churidar. Even the churidar is also coming with designs like embroidery , net work, dori work in the bottom.

Nowadays the churidar suits are coming with long, straight kurtis having long slits. These kurtis are worked heavily with beads.

Ladies Frock Suits



These ladies frock suits are latest in the fashion if we talk about ladies suits. These are so beautifully designed  with the bright combinations and fabric that gives an attractive look to the suits. These frock suits are comes up with cut sleeves, 3/4th sleeves, full sleves, churidar sleeves and net sleeves having embroidery over them. These suits are not come up with long dupattas instead they have stoles with them because the suits are already too heavy. 

These ladies frock suits are available in various fabrics like satin, chiffon, soft net, georgette and cotton. These suits are long enough that they touches the knees. Only an small porting of churidar is visible in the bottom that gives anarkali look to the suit.

Ladies Embroidered Suits



Ladies embroidered suits are the most elegant ladies wear. These suits are embroidered using various material like silk thread, beads, sequins work, kundan shell work and many more. In India there are various kind of embroideries which are carried out by different states.

In India besides changing language and water from one state to another there is one thing that changes is regional embroidery. These embroideries are known by the names of those particular states like:

  • Kashmiri Embroidery - The Kashmiri embroidery is quite popular. It takes months to complete thread work on one suit or shawl. Artisans stitch decorative motifs of birds, maple leaves, and other decorative designs. The most popular form of thread work is the chain stitch that is done on shawls and clothes.
  • Jaipuri Embroidery - Jaipuri embroidery is a mirror work emboiderey which is deigned over bandhej design.
  • Lucknow Chikan Embroidery -  Lucknow Chikan Embroidery is the most delegant and famous embroidery all over India and even Globally. The history of Chikan work is not definite and different people have different assumptions and beliefs regarding the same. Chikan work is basically the work of floral and flowers over the cloths. 
  • Gujrati Embroidery : Aari Embroidery is the most popular emboidery which is carry out with silk threads using a hook in Kutch, Gujrat. The designs found commonly are, dancing peacocks, human figures in dancing postures and other delicate and definitive forms.
  • West Bengal Embroidery : Kantha embroidery is a popular type of embroidery in the Bengal region of India. It has always been popular amongst rural women who keep the tradition of this special craft alive.
  • Manipur Embroidery : This area has a unique type of embroidery that uses one stitch, in deference to the weavers in the area. This is done in dark matching shade with untwisted silk thread on the border of the phanek (a lungi or lower body wrap worn by women).

Alongwith the above states there are many other states whose embroideries are very popular like Andhra, Bihar, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab and Haryana.

The tradition wear includes Kurtis, Ladies Suits, Sarees, Indo Western Ladies Dresses, Lahengas and many more.

Traditional Ladies Kurtis




Traditional Indian Clothing includes Ladies Kurtis which are absolutely like ladies suits. Nowadays ladies Kurtis are designed with the add ons of western style. They are available in the most attractive colors, with the silk embroidery, beads work etc that makes the women so special and attractive.

These traditional kurtis are available in varied fabrics like chiffon, cotton, georgette, synthetic and many more.

Frock Kurtis


Nowadays, frock kurtis are also very famous among ladies, girls or we can say all age group females are preferring them. These kurtis are also called anarkali kurtis because they are below the knee length and so wide from the bottom which gives the shape of dresses wore at the time of Mughal empire.

Indo-Western kurti is mixture of western tunic and Indian kurti so it is called indo-western kurti in general. These kurtis may be short, knee length or long, may be tight, straight, fish cut or frock style. These are so comfortable and girls feel confident after wearing them.

Fashion for Women



What is fashion for women? Oh please don't laugh. Fashion means a lot for a girl, a mid age group lady or and old lady. And study says that makeup makes boost a woman’s attractiveness. It increases people’s perceptions of a woman’s likability, her competence and her trustworthiness but don't overdo it. This is a fact that women feel more confident when wearing makeup.

Same with the clothing also. Researchers have found women attach emotions to clothes. We then use the ones that make us feel good as tools to boost our mood. A study was carried out at University of Queensland. They study if they get up and aren't feeling great, they would put on something that would brighten them up. On other occasions they use clothes to mask their emotions. It didn't brighten their mood, but it would give them the appearance of being bright, even if that is not how they actually feel. One more example is if you go to the date and that was not well, then you'll blame your clothes and will decide to never wear them.



History of Fashion



Everything has a great history in this world. Their is always a place of origin for everything either it is a living thing or a non-living thing and this time I am going to tell you about the history of Fashion.

The fashion is basically originated from Europe and America. In the mid 19th century the fashion was all about to get the cloths stitched through local tailor, no make up, no home decor nothing. Then by the beginning of 20th Century we started using sewing machine. This was the era of globalisation and origin of fashion wherein many industries was established for clothing.
